ACMin Newsletter - June 2014

From ACMin to You

As the Athens School of Ministry completes year two of our three-year launch phase, I am consistently overwhelmed by God’s goodness demonstrated through each person that has become part of the ACMin family – staff, students, faculty, Board members and faithful supporters.  As a result of our collective efforts to seek the Lord with all our hearts, we are seeing students transformed by their opportunities here to directly and immediately apply what they are learning to life and ministry.  Captives are being set free through heart-healing Prayer Ministry. As we press forward into God’s calling on our lives and the college, it gives us great joy to worship, serve, pray and teach others about God’s ultimate gift of His Son, Jesus, together.  Let me encourage you, personally, to ask the Lord to call you to an even greater measure of obedience, and to surrender faithfully to that call, trusting that the fruit of your obedience is entirely His. Whether God is calling you to full-time ministry or urging you to minister effectively wherever He has placed you, the Athens College of Ministry exists to help prepare you to answer that call. I hope that you will join with us through one of the many opportunities outlined below for your good and Christ’s glory!

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust Him so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
--Romans 15:13

Special Course in July - Healing Trauma

What is trauma? Trauma can be a single event or a series of traumatic events that are repeated over time causing an individual to become overwhelmed with painful, frightening or loathing emotions. When a person is unable to deal with traumatic events, he or she will often feel alone and struggle with recurring feelings of worry, fear and worthlessness. Trauma sufferers often have difficulty in relationships and in dealing with emotional challenges, as well as low self-esteem due to the traumatic experience and feelings associated with the trauma.

Jesus brings Good News to trauma victims!  July 14th - 18th, ACMin is hosting a special training for pastors, prayer ministers, counselors, and anyone who would like to learn how to be free from the lasting effects of trauma and help others do the same.  Click here for complete information and registration for the Healing Trauma workshop.  We hope that you will become part of a growing community of believers who want to help set the captives free by the power of Christ!

We are thrilled to be hosting a community-wide worship event for the Body of Christ in the greater Athens/Oconee area. Our Lifelong Ministry Program is back in full swing this Fall, with more educational training opportunities for all believers in Jesus. An incredible equipping ministry to the laypeople of your church, these courses are designed to deepen your love for Christ and effectiveness in service to the world around you. Affordable and convenient, the LMP classes are offered beginning in mid August in either morning or evening weekly meetings, lasting no more than 15 weeks. One new feature of the Lifelong Ministry Program, is that we will now offer mobile classes onsite at area churches, covering topics ranging from effective prayer, worship, and leadership development, to discovering the "Jewishness" of Jesus. Please call our office at 706-769-1472 to arrange for one of our LMP classes to be held at your church today, or register online to attend one at our campus.

Jeff Renn comes to us from his home state of North Carolina, with a background in worship and missions ministry. With experience in churches great and small, his heart is to see the Body of Christ unite in worship, prayer and service, thus fulfilling the call of Jesus that "we may be one" (Jn. 17:9-11). Jeff's responsibilities as Sr. Dir.of Ministry Outreach at the ACMin range from church and ministry partnerships, worship renewal in the churches, to marketing and student recruiting. As a pianist and vocalist, Jeff has conducted Concerts of Worship in numerous area churches, and would love to serve your church as well. His lovely wife Leigh is Asst. Director of Academic Counseling at Prince Avenue Christian School, where their three daughters (Gracie, Isabelle and Lilly) attend. THE MIGHTY MITE: Investing at the ACMin

To the onlookers, her small donation to the temple barely made a clink as it dropped into the collection box. Most would barely notice her that day, most except for Jesus. Even as the Lord called attention to her sacrificial gift, a blessing given "out of her need", He honors us as well as we look beyond the limits of our resources to the greatness of our God. Your gift to the ACMin, however small, is allowing us to continue operating as a college, pay our gifted faculty, and support students through need-based scholarships who otherwise would have no chance to study here. As you pray about where the Lord would have you invest your dollars for the Kingdom of God, consider the Athens College of Ministry. Every dollar advances His great purposes in the world, one unique life at a time. Follow this link to determine how you might partner with us financially, whether your gift be mighty... or mite-sized.

Creation and Creator

For as the soil makes the sprout come up
and a garden causes seeds to grow,
so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness
and praise spring up before all nations.

--Isaiah 61:11

Join ServeAthens 2015 Team

A church has the slogan "Growing to be a part of something greater than ourselves"-- what a great motto for the Body of Christ, as we join hearts and hands to do together what could never be accomplished on our own! ServeAthens ICN, our annual community-wide service event, was held in late March, involving numerous churches, ministry organizations, and servant-hearted followers of Christ. We're excited to announce that plans for an even more impactful ServeAthens event are now underway, with plans to convene our volunteer Steering Committee on Thursday, June 5, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at the ACMin offices. We are still praying for the right individuals to serve as leaders on this team for next year's event (March 28, 2015), as they will shape something that has potential to both bless the children and advance the Kingdom of God. Won't you consider joining us? Please call the office at 706-769-1472 to make your reservation for the meeting.

Part of our vision at the ACMin is to be a hub for area churches, that we might be a resource to connect believers with ministry opportunities throughout the greater Athens area. Our Community Connect page features such events affecting the Body of Christ, and we would love to bring attention to your church's next big event as well. In addition to this calendar of special events, this page also serves as a "bulletin board" for available job openings, both part-time and full-time, in area churches and ministries. Simply email us at with the details surrounding your event or ministry position, and we will make this news available to our online audience. Blessings to you in Christ as the Lord blesses our community through your church!
