Calling Athens to Pray

First Friday Prayer @ ACMin

The Lord has greatly blessed our vision to be a "house of prayer for all nations"! One of the special opportunities we provide at the Athens College of Ministry is our monthly gathering on the first Friday of each month, hence the name "First Friday Prayer". Although each one who participates is encouraged and refreshed by this intimate experience with the Lord, our desire is for First Friday to be a time for ministry leaders in particular to allow us to pray for them and the work of God to which they are called, be it a church or other Christian organization. One pastor recently described this time in prayer as "really refreshing". Won't you join us, that we might serve as the Aaron and Hur, lifting up your arms as you are faithful in the "good fight" of faith? NEXT FF PRAYER is March 7, from 12:00 - 2:00 PM in Classroom D ("come and go" casual).

National Day of Prayer - Thursday, May 1st

Click here for a complete listing of prayer events and opportunities throughout the day as we celebrate the privilege of prayer and join together in unity to bring the Kingdom of heaven to earth.

Meet Student Tim Savelle

Tim Savelle is a member of St. James United Methodist Church, currently pursuing a Master's degree in the field of Christian Ministry. Tim actively serves with the Bigger Vision homeless shelter, the Mercy Clinic of Athens, and is in training for prayer ministry through the ACMin.

Describe your calling to ministry preparation:  In February 2013 God brought me to a point of complete, joyful surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ.  I am now a passionate disciple living a life centered around being about my Heavenly Father’s business. Right now I’m just walking in the preparation phase, trusting Him, abiding in Him, and advancing His Kingdom as best I can in the areas where He has placed me to serve. After a joy-filled conversation with Dr. Marcia WIlbur to learn more about ACMin, God revealed through prayer that ACMin is to be one of [the things] which He is using to shape me into a vessel that He will use for His Holy purposes.

What do you love most about the Athens College of Ministry? The thing I love most about the school is its focus on Jesus’ model of the New Testament church, the church of the Book of Acts.  Without a denominational affiliation, the school is free to shape ministers to lead, serve, worship, minister, witness, and love in the awesome power of the Holy Spirit.  ACMin will help us develop both our equipping and spiritual gifts for His glory.

How do you plan to use what you are learning at the ACMin in your current and future service to the Lord? I believe ACMin will give me a solid grounding in God’s Word, skills in preaching and teaching, and opportunities to walk out my calling through local outreach and service.  I don’t know ultimately where God is going to take me, but I have no doubt that through ACMin He will equip me to proceed to the next step in ministry, whatever that turns out to be.

Can you provide a word of encouragement to prospective students? I believe that when the God who created the universe selects us for the ministry, it is irrevocable (Romans 11:29).  That is exciting, encouraging, and empowering! Respond joyfully and obediently to the call. God promises to equip us, strengthen us, empower us, provide for us, and bless us with lasting fruit.  If we love Christ and abide in Him, we cannot imagine what God has prepared for us!

Investing is Easy!

The Scriptures admonish us to "lay not up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust destroy..." but to invest in things eternal, things that truly matter. Of course, that which matters most to our heavenly Father are not things at all, but rather people. Here at the ACMin we greatly treasure the people God has called to link arms with us, whether they be students called to pursue in depth biblical studies, faculty members desiring to pour their spiritual insights into willing hearts, volunteers who stand by us to bless others in sacrificial service, and those who add their resources for us to steward with His leading. Investing in things that matter is easier than ever. Please go to this link to make a contribution or to set up a monthly gift. And THANK YOU for the investment you're making in each precious soul who comes to ACMin to be equipped for Kingdom service!
