ACMin Newsletter - May 2015

Room To Grow

May is an amazing month to get outdoors, dig in the dirt, and marvel at the breathtaking blooms from bulbs planted in seasons gone by. A seed planted in a spacious garden has plenty of room to grow as large as its design will alow, provided that conditions are right. But something planted within the limitations of a flower pot can only grow as large as the vessel which holds it.

We're like that plant sometimes. Incredible potential, unique by design, and made alive by the presence of God Himself residing within us. But yet at times we feel as though we're root-bound, stuck within certain confines, be they our own natural abilities or forces beyond our control. A loving and wise gardener would gently remove such a plant from the pot, break up the roots a bit to free them, possibly divide up the shoots and transfer them to a new environment, where there will be plenty of room to flourish and grow.

Do you trust Him, saint of God? Allow the Lord in His love to pick you up, free you where you are bound, and introduce you to an environment where you aren't simply surviving, but thriving. He longs for all His children to grow in grace, always learning and even willing to experience a bit of pruning along the way, so that others might enjoy the fruit of the faithfulness of your life. Come grow with us at the ACMin!

ACMin Celebrates our First Graduates!

With special music provided by Karla White (Worship Arts) and Carolyn Kaes (Community Music Program), it was our pleasure to celebrate the completion of study for two of our Prayer Leadership Certificate students. From the Board of Trustees, staff and faculty of the Athens College of Ministry, we would like to congratulate you both, along with prayers for God's hand on your lives and developing ministries as you make yourselves available for His use. All praise, glory and honor to the Lord Jesus Christ!

Connecting Athens & Beyond

The English poet John Donne wrote, "No man is an island, entire of itself. Each man is a piece of the continent." Nowhere does this ring with greater certainty than in the Body of Christ. Though possessing disparate gifts, passions and callings, in Christ we are one and hold to one hope in Him. "There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism". (Eph. 4:5) One of ACMin's goals is to help gather the Body of Christ across denomination lines together for the good of the Kingdom. Whether hosting special events designed to bring people together in Christ such as the recent Pastors' Appreciation Lunch, or highlighting various ministry opportunities available in the area, we hope that you will stay tuned to other area Christian service, teaching, and prayer opportunities through our Connect page, including:

2015 Global Leadership Summit, hosted by Living Hope Church

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Karla White

Karla enrolled in ACMin in fall 2014 to pursue an undergraduate program in Worship Arts.  Carla and her husband, Nick, have two young sons, Luke and Noah. Karla has grown in her faith and relationship with the Lord through her Christian Core courses and has experienced strong growth in her vocal skills through Vocal Performance coursework with Dr. Becky Cooke. Karla recently began to apply her expanding skillset in a part-time worship leader position at Statham UMC.  We pray for great things in Karla's future with the Lord and in her studies at ACMin!

Healing Shame Course Offered in July

This summer, from July 13-17, Dee Pesaresi will lead an intensive, one-week worksop on God's plan for healing the destructive effects of shame in our lives and others. Those who participated in the Healing Trauma class last summer are still speaking of the extraordinary growth that occurred, both in a biblical understanding of how the Lord brings emotional healing, as well as in the students' ability to practice what they have learned as they reach other wounded people with God's grace. Early bird registration costs just $199 if you sign up by June 15th. Read about this life-changing course, as well as others offered currently through our Lifelong Ministry Program at www.acmin.org/Summer-2015-Course-Schedule.

ACMin Students Serve at Oasis Tutoring

Service is a big part of our college's DNA and one of the ways that our students build community together. in late April, students Lyle Unruh, Michael Kitchens, and Jonathan Tarbutton, along with Alexa Schulman, our Event Coordinator, served at Oasis Tutoring in the Pinewoods Community, digging a drainage ditch, clearing brush, and then playing with the kids! "We had a blast!" We at ACMin serve to love and love to serve!
