Poured-out Wine

Oswald Chambers is by far my favorite "classic" author.  In the following excerpt from "My Utmost for His Highest" (September 2nd), Chambers writes: Jesus did not say, “He who believes in Me will realize all the blessings of the fullness of God,” but, in essence, “He who believes in Me will have everything he receives escape out of him.” Our Lord’s teaching was always anti-self-realization. His purpose is not the development of a person— His purpose is to make a person exactly like Himself, and the Son of God is characterized by self-expenditure. If we believe in Jesus, it is not what we gain but what He pours through us that really counts. God’s purpose is not simply to make us beautiful, plump grapes, but to make us grapes so that He may squeeze the sweetness out of us. As we come together at the Athens College of Ministry under the banner of Christ to pray, serve, worship, and teach, our goal is always that the equipping and infilling we receive here will result in an overflow from our earthen vessels so that we may be His poured-out wine for others' good and for His glory. "As He is, so are we in this world."  --1 John 4:17. That is our prayer.
Blessings & joy-

Glad You Joined Together for A.D.O.R.E.

What joy it was to join together with our brothers and sisters-in-Christ for an amazing day of worship and testimonies on Labor Day!  The Athens College of Ministry would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to every band member who helped make the 7-hour event possible, to each volunteer for their cheerful toil, and to everyone who gathered for the singular purpose of worshipping the Lord!  It was good!  And we would like to offer special appreciation to our A.D.O.R.E. corporate sponsors: Heyward Allen, Living Hope Church, and St. James United Methodist Church. Thanks also goes out to Chick Music for their help with the sound system, to WMSL for tirelessly helping to promote the event through broadcast media, and finally to the Bishop Family for the generous way that they made the amphitheater available to the public for God's glory! We were honored to worship with you! Click here to see photos from the event!

Partner with ACMin Through Your Donations

It's in our nature to want to be part of something greater than ourselves. As believers in Christ, we want to make an eternal Kingdom difference. For this reason, the Athens College of Ministry is pleased to extend the opportunity for people to give sacrifically to the ministry of the college. We see the value of each student who enters our doorway, their hearts for surrendered service, and their great potential to reach others with the Good News of Jesus. As we open our hearts to the Lord and our hands to the needs around us, we can experience what it means to "give and good gifts will be given unto you, pressed down, shaken together and running over" (Luke 6:38). When you think of the ACMin, think of that one whom God has called here, in preparation for their particular mission field. Because of your generosity, our students can be the gift that keeps on giving... for years to come on into eternity. Please click here to partner with us.

Get Connected!

Do you have information about an upcoming teaching, prayer, worship or Christian service event that you'd like others to know about? Does your ministry have a job opening you'd like to post?  Let us know and we'll list the information through our Connect page.  Visit Connect often to learn more about area-wide opportunities.  In particular, Special Touch Ministries is seeking volunteers the week of September 15-19 to help with a camp in the Winder area for individuals with disabilities.  See Connect for information on how you can help!

Looking Ahead

Mark your calendars!  As we look ahead to 2015, we hope that you will make a plan to join us for two of ACMin's annual community-wide events:
New Year - New Heart: A Day of Prayer, Saturday, January 10th.  This is a day of equipping for more powerful, effective prayer as well as learning how to help others get free from heart wounds and the bitterness of unforgiveness.
ServeAthens ICN, Saturday, March 28th. Volunteers from across area churches join together to serve with their hands in support of area service agencies.  Others serve with their feet in the ServeAthens ICN 5k walk/run.  We serve to love and love to serve!
We hope that you will participate--
